Details, details.

So I signed up. I'm doing Jaywalkers, I've got the needles, the yarn, the buttons, and the stress. This should be fun. Umm, I guess I'm on the US sock team, or just the US team in general. Hm, whatever. It's not like we're competitive, right?
So anyway. In other knitting news, I started the thumb gore on glovelet #2, or the left one. I love the bright lurid green yarn with the bright lurid magenta needles. :P I resized it even more: 48 sts on US00s.
I like knitting while watching movies. I might do that tonight, because I'm totally slacking off and not doing homework. I feel kind of whatever-ish about it though, and at least I'm motivated to knit, right?

I don't know if I'm actually going to do it, but it seems like a nice challenge. I'd do Jaywalkers in Lion Brand Magic Stripes Blue Regatta.
I also want to knit Picovoli (again from magknits, and again by Grumperina) in my pretty blue cotton. It's so the kind of thing I'd wear, besides the not-wearing-knitted-stuff thing.
Oh my. I adore Magknits now. The tunic-thing looks amazingly gorgeous. And I'd SO wear that. *drool*

I dislike being impatient, sometimes. I'm glad it doesn't carry over fully into my knitting. (although I do get second sock and second glove syndrome....)

Hooray For Me!

That's the name of the glovelets. Hooray For Me! gloves. They're going well, and I'm storing the WIP inside a tennis ball container.

Someone asked me if I ever make anything that wasn't created by someone else. Actually, my first two scarves were of my own creation, and my first complete pair of socks were mine.

Well, I'm off to knit some more.

There's one good thing to be said about deadlines...

The immutable ones are truly motivating. There is nothing that can produce swifter work than the realization that yes, I still have so much more to start/finish, and yes, it all has to be done for tomorrow. No, no extensions. No, no sleep.

I was up until 4:00 am on sunday (sunday's early morning) making an iPod cozy for my friend's new iPod Video. I winged it, hoped, cursed, watched tv, and all in all had a good time. And it was done.

Today, I have so much more homework to do. And it's 9:48 pm. And I have a math test tomorrow at 7:48 am.
This sucks.

Indecision

Hmm. What to make next. Pasha is done (and given away, to rave reviews), my slytherin scarf is like 11/19ths done, I frogged the cuff of the cursed sock (still haven't added a cast on, deciding whether to make the heel a bit roomier), I've been commissioned to make a Ravenclaw scarf for my other best friend, I want to make socks, I need to make a cow-patterned iPod cover for my friend's birthday, and yet I don't know what to do.
Perhaps I'm bored, perhaps I'm overwhelmed.

I'm also swatching right now with this thin (probably like fingering weight or so) bright green synthetic (I believe) yarn. It's probably about 8 stitches per inch, and I love the bright-green-ness. It might be glovelets, it might be a bookmark, who knows. I'm thinking glovelets, though. Despite the acrylic-ness. I have a huge (radius=3 inches? height=6 inches) cone of this stuff that I bought in London for ONE POUND. One. I adore it.

I'm slowly slogging away at the slytherin scarf. It's kind of cool, and I'll definitely have to block it, despite the fact that half of the stripes are acrylic...

Yesterday I finished Pasha, and got sick. Joy.
Pasha was made out of Red Heart crappy acrylic, $2.17 per skein. The nose is kind of misshapen, and the whole thing is very slightly messy, but I kind of like it. It's a present for someone I dislike. I think I might just make myself another one, because it's quite cute in its little penguin way.
Actually, I believe my next whimsy project will be the Womb doll, again from Knitty. Knitty is awesome.

I would dearly love to own the book War for the Oaks, by Emma Bull. It is like my favorite contemporary fantasy book of all time.

Well.

It was bound to happen. Really. I've never made anything that doesn't fit me before. (Ok, I've made things that were too big, but at least they made it on to various appendages.) So I was cursed. Maybe it was the cast-off, maybe it was the fact that the turning of the heel was very very tight, maybe it was just the knitting gods getting their sacrifice. The first sock went ok, with a bit of a short-row mishap (*coughIshortrowedittwicecough*) but it fit. really. I liked it.

The second sock goes up to my heel, but the stupid thing won't make it past my heel. Grr. It's probably the cast-off; I don't know any sock-specific ones so I just used the one I know. Grr. It's really annoying. My first FO in like 2 months, and it gets botched up. Fate, I guess. Or the knitting gods.

Now the real problem: to frog or not to frog? I could probably get away with frogging to the heel and just making it a bit roomier, but what if that doesn't work out?

Oh, fish. Maybe I should just get back to doing my summer homework and forget about knitting? (hah, as if I'd ever really forget. Just...misplace the thought occasionally. Really.)

Spinning

Look at me. I have reached new heights in fiber awareness.

I found clumps of wool, and I started carding them (sort of) with my fingers, and twisting them to see what the hell all the fuss was about.
One of the people whose house we were staying in noticed, and started saying something like "oh, it's been a long time since I spun, I hope we haven't thrown away the spindle."

After about 20 minutes, a drop spindle was borrowed from a neighbor (after all, we were in a village. you could borrow a cow if you wanted.) and I was immediately shown how to spin.

Haha. I am great. (not really, I'm just happy.)

My first ever thread-yarn-hybrid is sitting in my backpack, safe in its own padded pocket. :)

Boring.

That's my life as of now. I went swimming, and as soon as I got out of the pool, the sun went away and it got really windy. I froze.

Knitting, er, slogging away at the weird misshapen sweater-thing that has no idea what it wants to be. I've changed my mind like 20 times already.
The reason why I don't want the front to be one piece and long is because cotton just frames my belly and makes it look bigger. I don't want it short either because that looks weird if it's not with a sundress or similar thing. I'm very picky, but I don't really know exactly what I want. I know what I don't want, though.
Yada yada yada...Enough whining.

Hmm...

I realized last night that with all the alterations in this pattern, it's resembling Spring Fling more than anything. It's just about an inch or two shorter. It's sort of a bolero-shrug-cropped sweater hybrid. I wonder how it'll turn out, and if I'll actually wear it. (From when I was little, I've had an aversion to wearing knits. Strange attribute of an avid knitter...)

Yes! Notice the new banner right under the "I Power Blogger" banner? That, my friends, is the result of about 5 minutes of staring at the template and cursing.

My only excuse for taking so long is that it is indeed 2:15 AM here and I have been up since noon. My, what a tiring day.

But seriously, Knitty is awesome.

Blue Mariah

It's blue. It's soft. It's...Mariah! Ok, I know I'm cheesy.

Mariah is going well, I guess. I'm a really slow cabler without cable needles (I've been using both my ring and a Q-tip.) and I'm a really slow knitter when knitting cotton. This means that for a long time of effort, I've only got 3 cable repeats to show. That's about 4 or 5 inches of the back.

Now the (sort of) interesting part of the sweater is that since it's something for warm weather to just cover my arms etc, I'm making the bottom hem start at a bit above my belly button. All my pants start at my hips, so this isn't normal length for me. In fact, it feels like it's only a bit removed from the One Skein Wonder that I always wanted to try. (I can't try it because I'd have to pay for it, and being a minor who can't work, I don't have the money.) It's not though. It's probably 8-10 inches from the bottom to the armscye, and then another 8 inches to shoulder seams. I'm completely guessing on the measurements because I don't have a ruler and don't know my own measurements.

Ok, in a futile attempt to make something out of this...

I'm making it into a knitblog. I don't have a digital camera just yet (read: and never will) so anyone unfortunate enough to stumble upon this desolate blog can just, er, use their imagination.

Ok. Right now I'm in Istanbul (again) so my stash is limited. To 400 grams of really pretty blue cotton (I think it's mercenterized or whatever they call it) and 16-inch-long 5mm wooden straights. I was totally serious about the limited comment.
Now this cotton is very slippery, and splits like nobody's business. (god, where the hell did I pick up that phrase?) The wood is weird to knit on, because I'm used to steel, steel, and, oh, more steel.

With a stash like this, you'd think I'd aim for a shell or a tank or something. haha. I am insane; you must know this. I have decided to make Mariah from Knitty, an online KnitMag that I really like. This pattern is meant for thick, nice wool, and I'm completely f***ing over the look of the pattern by making it in floppy cotton.

Whatev'. We'll see how it works out.

Right now I'm about two to two and a half inches through with the bottom of the back. I've done 4 cable repeats, my gauge is god-knows-what. Probably like 4 sts/5 rows to an inch.

Actually, I might nix the sleeves and zipper and just make a t-shirt lookalike. Who knows.

i'm glad this isn't my usual blog. woo. if it were, i'd be royally f***ed.
erm. it's november and that's scary. school is going ok, but there is SO much work i'm dying. not really.
